The prestige of art – as opposed to any spontaneous enthusiasm – is what seems to keep a sizeable share of people coming through the doors. http://tourvideos.com/ Nice, in the French Riviera, has a wonderful downtown that is worth spending time in, exploring Nice’ s main commercial Street, Avenue Jean Medicin, stretching about 10 blocks from Place Massena north to the train station and packed with many boutiques and anchored at the lower end by the large department store, Galleries Lafayette. It's really quite wonderful to see how this Main Street is been transformed in recent years by the tram all the automobiles of been removed except service vehicles sidewalks whitened now it's a great place for pedestrians and bicycles and people in the and the tram running down the middle. When locals are referring to the street they don't even call it other news on meds seem the just say the Avenue because it's by far the primary shopping street of Nice. The east side of downtown is also an interesting place to walk around, a busy commercial area, not so much pedestrian zones but you've got lively streets and shops everywhere, sidewalk cafés, views back at Notre Dame. As you walk along you even get a view of the national theater, a large modern building, and other side streets that wind around it's a great place to explore. On the west side are several nice pedestrian streets for shopping and eating: Rue Massena and the more upscale Rue Paradis, with luxury shops like Cartier, Armani, Louis Vuitton and Hermes. What do you desire? Shoes, scarves, designer clothes, olive oil, wine, cheese, records, guide books, perfumes, soaps, lotions, kitchen utensils, local foods and all the usual souvenirs are here. There is a relatively new tram system in Nice it goes right down the main boulevard which is been converted from an automobile street into a tram and pedestrian and bicycle straight it's a marvelous place. This tram service connects practically now from the beach to the train station which makes it very easy to get from one end of town to the other. So it’s really not too critical that you stay at a hotel down by the waterfront but of course it is more pleasant to be down by the shore. The tram is convenient because it's right at street level so it's easy to just walk right on and there stops every few blocks so it's easy to catch and trance like this and become quite popular once again in Europe but sort of a rebirth of an old idea. Riding along on this new tram is a very smooth experience that tracks are still quite level so you have a nice view of downtown passing by to look at the Windows. There's a wonderful Matisse Museum located in a park slightly away from the center of town, a little too far to walk to, but you can easily reach it by public bus or just take a taxi. Matisse lived in the city of Nice for many years and created some of his finest paintings here. You might be able to visualize some of those scenes that were painted from his room looking out onto the beautiful blue sea, with the bright colors of the south of France and Provence.

Please subscribe: http://bit.ly/2pmdyeu We are taking you to Nice along the beautiful shores of the French Riviera. We will walk the little lanes and look at some shops, we will show you the beach, the open market Cours Saleya and bring you on a walking tour through the old town. We will be spending three days in Nice, because there is so much to see in the city and also in the nearby towns along the Côte d'Azur. This is a longer version of three previously uploaded movies. The south coast of France along the sunny Mediterranean Sea is one of the world’s most beautiful destinations dotted with colorful seaside towns and inland villages. You'll find that Nice makes the perfect home base from which you can easily reach those other destinations like Cannes and Monaco. Nice has got the biggest collection of hotels, it's got a wonderful old town, a very attractive new town, great transportation with the tram and the major train station and just a beautiful place to be. One of the great street markets of France is located here in the wide Cours Saleya. This plaza features fresh produce and flowers throughout the day and many the stalls are open right into the early evening, except on Mondays when it becomes an antique market and some other used goods peddled by colorful vendors. Just inland from the Cours Saleya you'll find the Old Town of Nice. For many visitors it will be the highlight of the city, wandering through these narrow pedestrian lanes lined with historic buildings and shops, lots of restaurants, bars, town squares with fountains and statues, a church here and there. It's just a great spot to explore and hang out. The old town consists of narrow labyrinths, not really streets, more of a maze with blocks of shops of every kind along these narrow twisting lanes. The old town of Nice is something very special - not so much because of historic monuments or great churches or important single buildings that are inside the old town, but just the total atmosphere, the environment, the simple walking lanes, the shops and the people. There are actual locals living here, there are kids out playing, the residents are upstairs looking down from their windows and you really get a feeling of community here, of authenticity, especially in the off-season when it's not too crowded with tourists walking through the lanes - that helps quite a bit. You'll find souvenir shops with the typical Provençal items especially the colorful fabrics and the pottery. There's also lots of food in the stores, go for the cookies maybe. We’re just rolling along together, this is part of our visit to the south of France a small group of us traveling together and sharing in the sites. We especially enjoyed the local cuisine of this casual restaurant. They specialize in crepes and socca and salads and that's really all you need for a very nice lunch. Creperie Breton. We're also going to have a look at the very attractive downtown of Nice. We'll take you down the main shopping street, show you some of the side lanes and do a little winetasting. You'll obviously take time to explore Nice’ s main commercial Street, Avenue Jean Medicin, stretching about 10 blocks from Place Massena north to the train station and packed with many boutiques and anchored at the lower end by the large department store, Galleries Lafayette. This is the kind of really local and authentic neighborhood that's often overlooked by typical guidebooks and video tours, but this is really part of the heart and soul of Nice. This is where locals hang out, where they go shopping, where they get a bite to eat, go to the café, have a beer, which makes it a good place for shopping and for people-watching. It's so amazing how these pedestrian streets have transformed the cities of Europe. Just a decade ago these kinds of streets would've been filled with cars and trucks in pollution and noise, and the movement swept through the continent to convert these little streets in the heart of the town into pedestrian malls. Then we're taking you to an evening viewpoint to watch the sunset along the shore, and then up to the top of Castle Hill for a spectacular view looking down over the town. To get this view you walk along the east end of the waterfront promenade on the Quais des Etats Unit, and to the end you'll have this rocky outcrop with a terrace, with a commanding view looking back along the pebbly beach of Nice. Top 15 Places to See in Istanbul, Turkey ►Subscribe and click the bell to enable notifications for my new videos: http://bit.ly/DBH-SUB ►Read the blog posts: http://davidsbeenhere.com/category/blog/ Join David as he shows you around the top 15 places to see in Istanbul! Istanbul is one of the only transcontinental cities on the planet, spreading across Europe and Asia Minor. As Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul is a bustling hub of culture, history and gastronomy – a cosmopolitan capital in every sense. David begins in the oldest part of the city, the Sultanahmet District. He begins in the Hippodrome (circus), which served as the center of public life for the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine citizens. Present-day Sultan Ahmed Square has a handful of surviving remnants from ancient times. Near Sultan Ahmed Square are two of Turkey’s most visited attractions, steps from one another – the Ayia Sofia (Hagia Sophia) and Blue Mosque. The Ayia Sofia is now a museum, but was built as an Eastern Orthodox Basilica in 535 A.D. It was a Christian church for over 900 years before the Ottomans used it as a Mosque for another 481 years. It was the largest house of worship in the world for over 1,000 years! Across the square is the Blue Mosque. Its name comes from the blue tiles used to decorate the interior. Nearby sits the stunning 15th century Topkapi Palace that served as the home and governmental seat for the Ottoman sultans until the 1850s. A tour will reveal beautiful stonework and intricately decorated staterooms, as well as a crown jewel and Imperial treasury exhibition. After the palace, David takes us to the Archaeology Museum to show us some of what was uncovered in Istanbul. Perhaps the most impressive thing on display is the Sarcophagus of Alexander the Great with its detailed reliefs depicting Alexander’s life of successful conquering. Not too far from the museum is the Basilica Cistern – a damp and dark subterranean cavern used to collect water for the city. The Medusa heads were likely stolen from a nearby Greco-Roman city to support the columns. Medusa’s face provided a warning against anyone who dared to tamper with the water supply. The next day, David heads over to the 300-year-old Cağaloğlu Hamamı for a Turkish bath. This Hammam provides full-service spa treatments including scrubbing, steam baths, and massages. Definitely a MUST experience when in Istanbul. David then heads to the shores of the Bosphorus for a scenic boat ride along the strait. From the water you’ll get panoramic vistas of the Istanbul skyline and get to enjoy view of other areas of this enormous city. After arriving back on land, David heads to the Beyoğlu District to beautiful pedestrian-friendly Istiklal Street, or “Independence Avenue” for some lunch. It spans about 1.4 kilometers and is the perfect place for shopping and dining. You can walk or take the Nostalgic Tram in either direction. The end of Istiklal Street takes David into the heart of Istanbul, Taksim Square. In the center of the square is the Monument of the Republic (1928) commemorating the formation of the Turkish Republic in 1923. Onto the Galata District to see a Whirling Dervish show at the Galata Museum. This 800-year old practice of spinning is used as a physical form of meditation. It is a mysterious and beautiful site to behold. You can’t visit the Galata District and not notice the Galata Tower. It looks over Istanbul and provides 360-degree views of the city, the Bosphorus, Golden Horn and landmarks. After all that sightseeing, David works up an appetite so he heads to the Karaköy waterfront to enjoy a cheap meal with a 5-star view. Nearby is the fish market. You can’t get to the Karaköy or Galata without crossing the Galata Bridge. From here you’ll see the skylines of both Sultanahmet and Galata districts. Lastly, David goes out to one of the most exclusive entertainment complexes in the world. Reina sits along the Bosphorus and offers world-class dining, nightclubs, and beautiful ambiance. Top Sightseeing locations to visit in Oslo, Norway. Including Downtown Oslo, The Royal Castle, museums, Vigelandsparken, Holmenkollen, and more. The exact locations are listed at the end of the description. The Oslo Opera: Do this one! The opera building is adjacent to the central station, and it's awesome. It's architecture is like walking on an iceberg, and it overlooks the Oslo fjord and Akershus Castle. Doesn't take much time. Karl Johans gate: The main walking street that connects Central Station (Oslo S) with the Royal Castle. I guess it's a must when you come to Oslo. You can't avoid it, and you shouldn't! Because it's the main street of Oslo. But Karl Johan is mostly for the tourists, beggars, scammers. People that live in Oslo, like me, hardly ever go there. Royal Castle: It's quite small compared to other royal castles because Norway was a poor country when it was built. But it's still a nice place to walk through on your way to Bogstadveien or to spend half an hour. Akershus Castle: This is a nice medieval castle at the center of Oslo, overlooking the Oslo fjord, and Aker brygge. Very nice for sunsets, and after a day in Oslo sentrum or Aker Brygge. There is also a free military museum and a cheap WWII resistance museum here. Aker Brygge: These are the Oslo docks which have been redeveloped into a posh private restaurant/bar/shopping area. Nice for a walk, and plenty of places to sit down and watch people or the magnificent view of Akershus Castle. There's also a modern art museum here if that's your thing. If you do go to the modern art museum, be sure go all the way to the top terrace, where you find an even better view of Aker Brygge, the fjord and Akershus Castle. Museum Island/Peninsula (Bygdøy): This is where most of the museums are, including the Viking Ship Museum, Kon Tiki, Maritime Museum, Folk Museum. But be aware that it takes a day, and it's quite a detour, there's not much else to do there. If I had to pick one, I would do the Viking Ship museum and maybe the adjacent Folk Museum. Vigelandsparken/Frognerparken: This sculpture park is very good, and very large. During summer this is a continuous party/BBQ, but in wintertime you will find mostly joggers and dog walkers. Do this park if naked stone people are your thing. Pro tip: The Oslo City museum is in the park, and its FREE! Holmenkollen/Frognerseteren: Holmenkollen is a giant ski-jump on a mountain overlooking Oslo. There is also the ski-museum and ski-stuff around here. Metro line 1 runs all the way to Frognerseteren and there is a cafe/restaurant close to the wilderness where you can overlook Oslo. Ekebergåsen: This is a lookout point close to Oslo, overlooking the city. If you are thinking of going to Frognerseteren for the view only, you should go here instead. Much closer to the city, so you get a better view and travel time is less, this is a nice spot to watch the sunset. Some Pro Tips: If you want to see "the fjord" for cheap, go to the beginning of Aker Brygge, and take the ferry (B10) to Nesodden and back again (don't get of). You will have a great view of Akershus Castle, Aker Brygge, numerous islands and the fjord. The "RuterReise" app for live public transportation time tables or planning, or just use Google maps, there's another "RuterBillett" app for purchasing tickets with a credit card on your phone, but I think it's only in Norwegian. Then there is the https://ruter.no/en/ website for trip planning. Museums in Paris - France World Travel https://www.youtube.com/user/World1Tube Paris - France Travel Guide,Tourism http://goo.gl/KqiCiY Musée du Louvre (Louvre Museum) Constructed as a fortress in the Middle Ages and rebuilt in the mid-16th century as a royal palace, it wasn't until 1793 that the Louvre became a museum. Today, it is the home of some of the world's most famous works of art, including the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. The rest of the permanent collection includes Greek, Etruscan, Roman, Egyptian and oriental antiquities, as well as sculptures, objets d'art and prints and drawings. Entrance to the museum is through the largest of the three glass pyramids that dominate the courtyard. The huge global success of Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code, which opens with the murder of the museum's curator in the Louvre Museum, has swelled visitor numbers. Opening Times: Thur and Sat-Sun 0900-1800; Wed and Fri 0900-2145. Admission Fees: Yes (free first Sun of the month and 14 July; tickets allow same-day re-admission) Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: Yes Address: Cour Napoléon, 1st, Paris, France Musée Picasso (Picasso Museum) Paris-based Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) owned most of this collection, one of the largest worldwide, housed in a stunning 17th-century mansion in the Marais. All phases of his art are represented, with preparatory sketches and paintings covering the Blue Period, Rose Period, cubism, classicism and surrealism, and sculptures ranging from a huge plaster head to a small cat. Memorable works include the Blue Period self-portrait Paolo as Harlequin, the surreal Nude in an Armchair and poignant paintings of Marie-Thérèse, his lover and muse. There is also a glimpse of the artist's personal taste in paintings, with his Matisse and Cézanne paintings displayed alongside his own. Opening Times: Currently closed for renovation. Reopens in 2013. Opening times when it reopens: Wed-Mon 0930-1800 (Apr-Sep); Wed-Mon 0930-1730 (Oct-Mar). Admission Fees: Yes Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: Hôtel Salé, 5 rue de Thorigny, 3rd, Paris, France Musée d'Orsay (Orsay Museum) For a beautiful recap of the world's impressionist art, you must visit the Musée d'Orsay. This magnificently restored railway station houses the French national collection of art from 1848 to 1914. Since opening in 1986, the museum has attracted pilgrims from far and wide to see Manet's Déjeuner sur l'Herbe (Luncheon on the Grass), five Monet canvases of Rouen Cathedral, ballet scenes by Dégas, and works by Cézanne, Van Gogh, Renoir and Toulouse-Lautrec. Even the museum restaurant is worth a look as it's preserved in its original state. Opening Times: Tues-Wed, Fri-Sun 0930-1800; Thurs 0930-2145. Admission Fees: Yes (free first Sun of the month) Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: Yes Address: 62 rue de Lille, 7th, Paris, France Musée Rodin (Rodin Museum) The Musée Rodin is probably the most romantic museum in the world. Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) lived and worked in this 18th-century mansion and today his sculptures populate the interior and landscaped gardens. Indoors, The Kiss portrays eternal passion frozen in white marble, while The Hand of God gives life to creamy white, half-formed figures. Works of Rodin's mistress and pupil, Camille Claudel, and paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir and Rodin himself are also on display. Outside, you'll find the monumental bronze The Thinker, whose godly physique contrasts sharply with the decrepitude of the writhing figures of The Gates of Hell. Opening Times: Tues-Sun 1000-1745. Admission Fees: Yes (free first Sun of the month) Disabled Access: Yes Unesco: No Address: 79 rue de Varenne, 7th, Paris, France Grande Mosquée de Paris (Paris Grand Mosque) Built between 1922 and 1926, this fascinating Hispano-Moorish mosque serves as an introduction to the Parisian Muslim community. Although the prayer room remains closed to the non-Muslim public, everyone can access the authentic hammam (Turkish bath) for a soak and a scrub down, provided you leave your sense of modesty at the door. Luckily, the sexes are segregated. There's also a wonderful mosaic courtyard complete with fig trees and a fountain - the perfect setting for enjoying a sweet mint tea served in tiny gilded glasses with some honeyed baklava. Opening Times: Mon, Wed, Thurs and Sat 1000-2100, Fri 1400-2100 (women); Tues 1400-2100, Sun 1000-2100 (men); tours Sat-Thurs 0900-1200 and 1400-1800 (winter), Sat-Thurs 0900-1200 and 1400-2200 (summer); closed Muslim holidays.
